Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to oversee and enhance the safety and health protocols within our organization. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in safety management, particularly in industries such as mining, construction, or manufacturing. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and fostering a culture of safety across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Policy and Procedure Development: Create, implement, and maintain comprehensive workplace safety policies and procedures in compliance with local regulations and industry standards.
  • Risk Assessment and Audits: Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards. Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the organization adheres to national safety regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) laws in Ghana and relevant international standards.
  • Safety Training: Provide and manage safety training programs for employees to ensure they understand and follow safety protocols. Conduct refresher training sessions as needed.
  • Accident Investigation: Investigate accidents and incidents to determine their causes. Develop and recommend strategies to prevent future occurrences. Prepare detailed reports on findings and improvements.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Design and implement emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and medical response strategies.
  • Facility Inspections: Perform regular inspections of facilities, machinery, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance reports. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory authorities when required.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as HR and operations, to promote a culture of safety and ensure comprehensive safety practices are integrated throughout the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on new safety regulations, techniques, and best practices. Implement changes and improvements to safety protocols as necessary.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience in a safety management role, with a focus on industries such as mining, construction, or manufacturing.
  • Skills:
    • Strong ability to assess risks and implement effective safety measures.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for training and reporting.
    • Proficiency in identifying potential hazards and addressing them effectively.
    • Proven ability to develop and lead safety initiatives and collaborate with various departments.
    • Strong problem-solving skills to tackle complex safety challenges.
  • Additional Advantage: Previous experience working in a mining company is highly desirable.
