Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geology Manager to oversee and manage all geological and exploration activities for our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the geology team, ensuring the application of safety and health principles, managing geological projects, and maintaining compliance with regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of geology, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record in geological management.
Key Responsibilities
- Geological and Exploration Activities: Manage all geological and exploration activities including gridding, geochemistry, trenching, pitting, geological and regolith mapping, drilling, logging, and project planning.
- Team Leadership: Lead the geology team to achieve safe and productive outcomes in line with agreed plans, operating standards, legal requirements, and data analytics. Ensure the team’s performance aligns with the asset plan and future mining advancements.
- Safety and Health: Oversee and ensure consistent application of safety and health principles in all geological activities. Take personal responsibility for the safety of the team and ensure a zero-harm approach.
- Operational Planning: Conduct rock characterization, interpretation, and modeling. Create and maintain a high-performing culture within the team and ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and company standards.
- Exploration and Drilling Programs: Develop and generate exploration targets, plan, coordinate, and manage drilling programs. Ensure the safety and quality control during drilling campaigns.
- Training and Mentoring: Train, mentor, and supervise exploration team members, geologists, and surveyors. Ensure effective management of field mapping, logging, sampling, and general geology tasks.
- Coordination and Control: Coordinate and control mining and grade control activities of projects, ensuring efficient operation and high-quality outcomes.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports and documentation including geological models, drilling results, and compliance records. Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in geological activities with at least 2 years in senior management roles.
- Skills:
- Ability to analyze and interpret geological models and concepts.
- Proficiency in using GIS-MapInfo Software for resource evaluation and Surpac Software for drill sections.
- Strong supervisory skills with the capability to train and manage geologists in various geological tasks.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Certification: Certificate of competency from the Ghana Institution of Geoscientists.
Additional Requirements
- Proven experience in managing and leading geological teams.
- Ability to plan, monitor, evaluate achievements, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of safety and health regulations applicable to the mining and exploration industry.
